David Abellan

Young and successful Euphonium Soloist from Spain!
David Abellán is a proud native of Jumilla (Spain). Mr. Abellán started his musical studies at the
Jumilla Academy of Music ¨Amigos de la Música¨. He continued his education in Conservatories
in Murcia, Jumilla y Ávila with Francisco González Hernández and Daniel Férriz Azorín and at the
Yecla Tuba Academy, completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Euphonium Performance at the Murcia
Conservatory of Music with Santiago Juanes Llorens.
Always eager to learn and perform, he has attended masterclasses with Vicente López, David
Llácer, Josep Bruguera, Steven Mead, Pedro Manuel Delegido, Mel Culbertson, Miguel Vallés,
David Thornton and Juanjo Munera, among.
Mr. Abellán has been principal euphonium of the World Youth Wind Orchestra Project, the
Murcia Regional Wind Orchestra, and member of the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra.
Professional engagements include performances with Murcia Symphony Orchestra, Bilbao
Symphony Wind Band, Bilbao Symphony Orchestra and Vitoria Symphony Wind Band,
conducted by prestigious baton as Jan Cober, Felix Hauswirth, Mark Whitlock, Henri Adams,
Jose Rafael Vilaplana, Douglas Bostock Johan de Meij, Philip Sparke et al., his career includes
performances in Spain, Luxemburg, Italy, Germany, Austria, and Argentina.
As a soloist, he has won several competitions in Spain and has given numerous recitals in both
Spain and Argentina. He was a finalist at the 2009 edition of the Jeunesses Musicales Young
Musicians Competition in Spain.
His facet of educator, Mr. Abellán is the artistic director/founder of Jumilla Low Brass festival
(2012 to 2016) and serves as a low brass instructor at the Bilbao School of Music
¨BilbaoMusika¨. He served as a low brass teacher at the annual summer course for low brass
players called ¨Trombonanza¨, held in Santa Fe (Argentina), in 2011. He worked at the Jumilla
Academy of Music ¨Amigos de la Música¨ from 2006 to 2010 also takes courses in different
festivals and conservatories of all Spain.
In 2016 presents his first CD “Genteel Dances” in collaboration with he composer Ginés Carrión.
David Abellán is currently a member of the Bilbao Symphony Wind Band and he play Willson
2905 euphonium.
